Benue: Monarch commends Alia for ending water scarcity in Otukpo

The Mayor of Otukpo, Chief Aloga Ogbogo, Tuesday commended the Benue state governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for restoring water supply to Otukpo town, a move he said will bring relief to the perennial water scarcity in the area.

Otukpo, one of the largest towns in Benue state, had been plagued by water scarcity for years, leaving its residents with little hope for a solution.

However, Governor Alia’s recent approval of payment for the resuscitation and completion of the Otobi water works, abandoned by previous administrations, has changed the narrative.

Chief Ogbogo in a statement he signed on behalf of the Och’Idoma, His Royal Majesty, John Elaigwu Odogbo, the Idoma Area Traditional Council, and the entire Idoma community, praised Governor Alia’s commitment to the welfare of Otukpo residents and Idoma land, commending his decisive steps in restoring water supply to the area.

The Mayor noted that the governor’s directive to release funds for the water works underscores his dedication to the people’s welfare, recognising the essential role of water in daily life.

He also commended Governor Alia’s efforts and emphasised the significant achievements the governor has recorded in less than two years in office ,describing him as “a beacon of development and hope for the state.”

To ensure the successful rehabilitation of the waterworks, Chief Ogbogo appealed to CGC, the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, and other relevant partners to adhere strictly to specifications, guaranteeing a sustainable and uninterrupted water supply.

The Mayor also urged the contractor, CGC, and stakeholders to conduct public sensitisation on the rehabilitation process and ensure proper reticulation of pipelines across Otukpo town for efficient water distribution.

He further called on residents to safeguard all water installations to prevent vandalism or disruptions to water supply.
