Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom has declared Thursday, January 11 a work-free day in honour of those killed in recent attack by herdsmen in communities of Logo and Guma local government areas.
The state will as well conduct mass burial for the dead, same day after a church service.
A statement issued by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Terver Akase yesterday in Makurdi quoted the governor as directing that there will also be three days of mourning and prayers for the victims of the attack.
According to the governor, the mourning period would be held from today to Thursday and end with a church service for the victims at the IBB Square in Makurdi, followed by mass burial.
He said, “Flags will fly at half mast within the mourning period while work will close at 1pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Thursday, which is the day for the church service and burial of the victims, will be work-free day in the state.”
Blueprint recalled that communities in Guma and Logo, home local governments of governor Ortom and former Governor Gabriel Suswam, respectively, had in the past seven eight days been under attack by suspected herdsmen leading to the death of more than 60 persons.
