Benue State Executive Council has declared a state of emergency on infrastructure.
The council also resolved to pull down buildings and other structures in the state that do not meet the standard, especially buildings constructed on water ways.
Briefing newsmen Thursday at Government House, Makurdi, after the Benue State Executive Council meeting, Commissioner for Works and Housing, Itiza Imojime, said the council expressed worry over the reckless erection of structures on water ways which has resulted to flood and collapse of some buildings leading to loss of lives.
The commissioner noted that the council also declared emergency on infrastructure, taking special notice of the bad roads and dilapidated nature of some structures in some schools, and set machinery in place to ensure that infrastructures in the state are developed.
He noted that apart from the contract awarded for the construction of the 16 roads in the state, government is working towards rehabilitation of collapsed streets in Makurdi, the state capital and other major towns in the state.
