The Benue state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice & Public Order, Fidelis Mnyim Esq, Friday, described as malicious and unfounded petitions by a group calling for his sack.
A group known as Benue Equity and Justice Movement led by the convener Comrade John Adejor, had in a statement published by an online newspaper Thursday, called for immediate sack of the Attorney general citing “crass incompetence and act of corruption.”
According to the group, the Attorney General lacks the skill and ability to meet the basic standards of his office as a Commissioner for Justice.
However, responding, the commissioner refuted the claim describing it as spurious and lacking in substance.
The statement, signed by his media aide, Dr. Iormbagah Aondohemba Jacob, highlighted Mnyim’s achievements and contributions to the legal and administrative landscape of Benue state.
According to the statement, Chief Mnyim has been instrumental in granting full autonomy to the Benue State Judiciary and House of Assembly, ensuring the separation of powers as enshrined in Nigeria’s Constitution.
The statement noted that under his supervision, the Ministry of Justice has achieved significant legal victories, including the dismissal of high-profile cases such as Ortom & Abounu v. Benue State Government and 23 Suspended LG Chairmen v. BNSG.
“His track record extends to his tenure as the legal adviser of the APC Benue State, where he successfully defended the party in over 36 court cases, paving the way for its historic victory in the 2023 polls.
“Chief Mnyim has spearheaded structural innovations within the Ministry, such as the creation of new directorates and the launch of initiatives like Operation “Save the Benue Child.” He has also sponsored the passage of 10 landmark laws, including the Benue State Persons with Disability Law and the State Electricity Law.
“His efforts to protect vulnerable groups include facilitating the return of trafficked Benue girls and reviving the State’s Human Trafficking Taskforce. Additionally, he established the State Mining Marshals to combat illegal mining activities.
“Contrary to claims of inaction, Chief Mnyim maintains a consistent presence in court and plays a vital role in national legal bodies such as the Body of Benchers and Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee.”
The statement urged well-meaning citizens of Benue State to disregard the baseless allegations and continue supporting the transformational work of the Ministry of Justice under Chief Mnyim’s leadership.
