A Fulani socio-cultural association, Miyetti Allah, Kautal Hore, has described the media propaganda allegedly mounted by Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom on the leadership of the group as an attempt to influence and preempt the outcome of the court processes challenging the anti-grazing law currently at the Federal High court, Abuja.
Speaking with newsmen at the group’s headquarters in Nasarawa state at the weekend, the national secretary, Engr. Saleh Alhassan, said the Fulani pastoralist were law abiding citizens who believed in the rule of law and the supremacy of the Nigerian constitution.
He said Miyetti Allah remained totally opposed to the anti-grazing law“because it is intended to destroy their means of economic livelihoods”, adding that the law ill-timed and driven by hatred of their people.
“We are aware of the intention of the Benue state governor to create six cattle detention centres under a committee he set up to legitimisecattle rustling that have been the major factor responsible for the conflicts between farmers/herders in the Benue valley, which confirm our earlier fears of the negative use of the anti- razing law to dispossess our people of their cattle,” Alhassan said.
The Fulani group further called on President Muhammadu Buhari todirect relevant security agencies to closely monitor the activitiesand action of Ortom against the Fulani pastoralists.
