Th e new Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Abubakar Sadiq Bello, is a crime buster in every ramifi cation. He has spent the greater part of his almost thirty years career in Abuja. Slightly after serving in Kaura Namdas, he was posted to Abuja and served in many diff erent divisions in the FCT.
He was the deputy commissioner (administration) of Abuja before his elevation to commissioner in Nasarawa state, where he meritoriously served with total commitment and zeal. It was during his tenure, that the state government donated an offi ce complex, which was recently commissioned by the Inspector-General of Police Idris Ibrahim Kpatun. Bello, enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1988 as cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) after graduating from Bayero University, Kano.
He was on peace keeping mission to Bosnia, where he served to the admiration of his senior offi cers. Also, he was at the Kofi Annan peace keeping centre and African Mission in Darker. He attended both junior and senior command courses as well as Advanced Detective and Intelligence.
Th e police hierarchy has done the needful by deploying this crime buster to nation’s capital. He would not relent in giving a clean bill of adequate security to the people in the capital city. Th ere is the need for inhabitants of the FCT to give him the necessary cooperation to protect the seat of power. Abubakar Sadiq Bello is a believer in democratic policing. As such, he is going to give the command a new lease of life in the task of providing security to lives and property.
Th e task can be accomplished by the cooperation extended to the commissioner by the rank and fi le of the command. Th e police public relations community should synergise with the police commissioner to curb the insecurity challenge in Abuja by giving cogent security information. Th is can go a long way in dousing security tension and for the commissioner to replicate what he did in Nasarawa state by busting criminal elements in the state. He is poised to do more than that in Abuja and eradicate criminality in all ramifi cations for the good of the nation’s capital city. More grease to the elbow of the dynamic crime buster.
