The management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) said it has metered 200,000 customers in its franchise states of Edo, Ekiti, Delta and Ekiti in the last 12 months.
The company noted that the move is essential to the component of power sector value chain, adding that it also enables accurate billing and facilitates energy conservation.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Disco, Mr. Deolu Ijose, stated this when the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, paid a visit to the company’s head office in Benin City, Edo state.
Ijiose also said, with a staff strength of 2,600, the BEDC has increased staff salaries by between 5 and 7 percent since the new management of the entity took over in July 2022.
He added that, “when we came, there was no salary review for 10 years or true performance appraisal. We improved on staff salary by approving 5 to 7 percent salary review and block leakages.
“We met N4.9bn revenue as at July 2022 But by December that same year, we moved it to N7.6bn.
“And by 2023, we offset 94 percent of our bills. That’s to tell you that things are looking up,” Ijiose stated.
