Bayelsa: Judgment review mere academic exercise -Group

A group, the Progressive Youths for Progress and Accountable Development (PYPAD) in Bayelsa state has dismissed as mere ‘academic exercise’ the decision of the party to file a case at the Supreme Court for a review of the February 13th ruling nullifying the mandate of Chief David Lyon over certificates forgery of his running mate, Senator Degi Eremienyo.

They said though the party has the right to seek for a review, the proper review should have been done during the party selection process in order to discover the irregularities in the educational documents of the senator.

The group, in a statement issued at the weekend and signed by its Coordinator Kelvin Olotu, stated that ‘as far as we are concerned it’s just an academic exercise, for David Lyon, Sylva and the APC’

The statement reads in parts: ‘If they say that they are appealing the judgment of the Supreme Court, are they going to claim that either the Supreme Court spelt his name in error or his names were spelt in error going by the names in public five different names, on five different certificates and somebody in Nigeria will come say yes he graduated from all these universities with different names and that he is qualified.

“ It is the height of ignorance, stupidity for a people to stand up to say they will go back to the Supreme Court to review such a judgment claiming that he was not given fair hearing, fair hearing to prove what.”

On the protest by some youths at the private residence of Justice Mary Odili, the group condemned the action and described it as shameless show of desperation by the top chieftains of the Party.
