In response to hunger that have ravaged the country and by extension, Bayelsa state, the state government has begun distributing relief of food items to the less privileged in the society.
This was disclosed at a ware house situated at along Sani Abacha Way, by the state Commissioner of Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon Obowuii Koku Obiyah.
She said the distribution, which is being carried out in phases, aims to provide aid to the vulnerable members of the society.
She said the first phase of the distribution will cover three local government areas: Southern Ijaw, Yenagoa, and Kolokuma/Opokuma.
Each ward in these LGAs will receive 190 bags of 25k G rice and 20kg of garri.
The second phase will target Bayelsa east, which includes Brass, Nembe, and Ogbia LGAs.
The final phase Wednesday covered Ekeremor and Sagbama LGAs.
The relief items, which include 20 trucks of rice donated by the federal government, are being distributed to the less privileged members of society, as directed by Governor Douye Diri.
The governor has directed that no politician or appointee or civil servant should benefit from the distribution, and only those without jobs are eligible to receive the food items.
The distribution is being carried out based on the number of wards in each LGA, as the number of wards varies across the state.
For example, Yenagoa LGA has 16 wards, while other LGAs may have fewer.
