The Bauchi State House of Assembly on Tuesday announced the establishment of Food Security and Nutrition Committee.
The majority leader, Babayo Mohammed Akuyam, while speaking at the floor of the house during plenary presided over by the speaker, Abubakar Sulaiman, explained that the committee was constituted with a view to attain optimal nutrition status for the citizens.
He said this was with focus on the most vulnerable, especially, women and children as well as the internally displaced persons.
He said the committee’s terms of reference included ensuring that food and nutrition activities under the state ministry of budget, economic planing and multilateral coordination were implemented in line with the national multi sectoral strategic plan of action for food and nutrition for reduction of the proportion of people who suffers from hunger and malnutrition.
Others, he said were to ensure increment of the number of relevant MDA’s with functional nutrition unit by 75 percent and to ensure incorporation of nutrition education into formal and informal training.
In another development, the state assembly has passed into law a bill to establish Bauchi state safety and security of schools.
