Former Kaura local government chairman and ex-member of the House of Representatives, Hon Barnabas Bala Bantex was at the weekend voted as the new chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kaduna state.
Delegates at the APC state congress voted Bantex in with 634 votes ahead of Aliyu Lawal Silver (381) and Sadiq Mamman Lagos (299). Other candidates for the position include Dr Tom Maiyashi, Abdullahi Abbass, Ahmadu Coca-Cola, Umar Aliyu, Mikah Sule, and Abubakar Abdullahi.
Former interim chairman of the party, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, quit the race on Thursday citing overriding interests from some candidates and the need to give chance to others to build the party.
Chairman of the Congress Committee, Col. Mustapha Abdullahi (rtd), said in the state congress that held between Saturday June 7 and the early dawn of Monday June 9, Mr Barnabas Bala emerged as the chairman, while Alhaji Shuaibu Idris was elected as the vice-chairman.
Abdallah said Malam Saidu Kudan emerged as the organising secretary, while Dr Katuka Sanaka was voted as the Public Relations Officer.
Abdallah said the election followed strict adherence to electoral processes with security operatives, representatives from INEC, APC national headquarters and the media to monitor and ensure transparency.
He called on the 35 elected officials and other party members to set aside differences and work together towards achieving the mandates of the party.
He disclosed that 200 persons vied for the 35 positions available, including 10 persons for the position of the state chairman. The congress was attended by 17 members of the House of Reps and 1, 475 delegates.
