Bandits killed 27 security operatives, civilians in Niger – Shiroro youth

27 security personnel were reportedly killed on Sunday in an ambush attack by bandits   in Shiroro local government area of Niger state,

It was gathered that among the deceased were army, civil defence and police men.

A group of youth under the auspices of Concerned Shiroro Youths  whose communities were affected by the attack, said Tuesday in press briefing that three civilians were killed in the attack.

One of the conveners and spokesman of the youth, Bello Ibrahim, who confirmed the deaths to journalists stated that pictorial evidences at the scene showed that there were military civil defence and police casualties during the attack.

It would be recalled that unknown gunmen attacked two villages of Galkogo and Zumba in Shiroro local government area of Niger state on Sunday, killing and injuring people.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, ASP Wadiu Abiondun confirmed the incident on Sunday but couldn’t give details on casualties.

However, the youth from the area of the attack on Tuesday in Minna, said they counted 27 bodies of mostly security operatives.

Bello, who spoke for the youth said, “I can authoritatively tell you that the impact of the Sunday attack was devastating because Galkogo town is one of the biggest in the Lakpa axis. There were casualties involving military and policemen.

“27 military, civil defence and policemen were killed during the attack. How they were killed, we do not know but I can tell you that we have pictorial evidences.

“Right now, their corpses are with the authorities. The way they were killed is still very sketchy and I cannot say much on this.”
