A group of bandits kidnapped no fewer than 40 people in Maru town, the headquarters of Maru local government in different attacks in the past two weeks.
A resident in the area, Malam Ibrahim Samaila, told our correspondent via telephone interview Wednesday that the bandits besieged the town targeting residents in their houses.
“Just last week, the bandits stormed our town and began house-to- house search from Emir’s palace and kidnapped seven people,” he said.
He attributed the incessant attacks on Maru communities to the acts of informants in the area.
“Our major challenge is their informants as majority of the kidnapped victims are prominent persons in the area.
“As I am talking to you now, we have 40 kidnapped victims in bandit’s den in attacks on Maru communities for the past two weeks,” he stated.
He said the bandits who terrorised the area were from behind Bakalori Dam Camp (Bayan Ruwan) in Maradun local government area of the state.
“We are in serious anxiety and fear over Maradun bandit’s camp as many bandits have relocated to the area, hence the need for urgent action by the authorities to dislodge them for peace to reign,” he said.
He appealed to Zamfara state and the federal government to as a matter of urgency deploy more troops to Maradun area to flush them out of Bayan Ruwa bandits camp.
Efforts contact the state police command on the matter failed.
