Banditry: NGO advocates civil, military synergy in Zamfara 

 

The Cleen Foundation, a nongovernmental organization Wednesday conducted a two-day sensitisation workshop  for stakeholders, CSOs in Zamfara state on how to strengthen civil, military relationships.

The workshop also dealt with security agencies to enable them conduct their operations in fighting banditry successfully across the state. 

The advocacy workshop was held at Karma Guest Inn, Gusau, the state capital Wednesday. 

In an interview with journalists, the programme officer of the Cleen Foundation in Zamfara state, Mr. Ebere Mbaegbu, said the purpose  of the workshop was to develop synergy between the military and communitires affected by banditry in the state. 

He stated further that participants were drawn from Bungudu and Gusau local government areas in the state. 

Mr. Ebere further stated that civil society organizations, community leaders, traditional institutions and religious leaders roles in advocating their subjects on how to build cordial relationship with the military deployed to their areas to fight banditry is paramount. 

He said the foundation in the state is committed to work harmoniously with all the relevant stakeholders including the military to ensure synergy between communities affected by banditry and security personnel in their efforts to restore peace in the state.

“Cleen Foundation is the best nongovernmental organisation promoting public safety, security and accessibility to justice, hence the need for every stakeholders, CSOs, community, traditional and religious leaders to join hands together on how to build a formidable relationship with the military and other sister security agencies to enable them contain the lingering insecurity affecting Zamfara state,” he said.

He urged participants of the workshop to use what they learned to educate their people on the significance of civil military relationships for the successful operational activities.
