Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state, Thursday, urged the Federal Character Commission (FCC) on the need to engage stakeholders for useful engagement towards a future where Nigerians can have access to the opportunities they deserve.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new office of the commission in Bauchi, the governor noted that the occasion was not just a celebration of a new building, “but it represents our shared collective commitment to the principles of fairness, equity, justice, and national unity.”
Represented by his deputy, Auwal Jatau, Governor Bala said the state government recognised that the values upheld by the Federal Character Commission are not just national ideals, but are the foundation upon which to build a just and equitable society.
“As we inaugurate this office, I want assure you of the continued support of the Bauchi State Government in your mission. We understand that for the Federal Character Commission to deliver on its mandate effectively, it requires not only a physical space but also the collaborative spirit of all stakeholders.
“I am particularly happy that the Bauchi state government has contributed positively towards the realisation of this important edifice. This act is a testament to our commitment to fostering inclusivity and transparency in governance. We understand that the spirit of federal character is essential for national cohesion, and we are determined to support efforts that align with these values,” he said.
The governor applauded the Commission for its dedication to promoting fairness in the discharge of its assigned responsibilities, pointing out that its work ensures that every Nigerian, regardless of their background, has equal opportunity to participate in the nation’s progress.
