Thomas Mann once declared that ‘the destiny of man presents its meaning in political terms‘. That is to say, in our contemporary experience, it is difficult to make clear separations or distinctions between the politics of life and the life of politics. Once again, Senator Babangida Hussaini (Jigawa North-west), Chairman, Senate Committee on FERMA added another cap to his feather as he received the award of Leadership Excellence in Public Administration/Parliament from Hotpen magazine at its 10th year anniversary.
Earlier in the life of the 10th National Assembly, Senator Hussaini identified the mindset of the human element as material in the building of the Jigawa North-west Senatorial District of his dream. The new Jigawa North-west senatorial paradigm is properly articulated people-oriented representation, aimed at preparing the people to face the challenges of the new thinking consistent with Senator Hussaini’s legislative agenda.
Explicit in this unique vision is a proven roadmap of where we are, where we want to be and how to get there. His legislative administration places very high premium on education and skills development as education is pivotal to human capital development.
Senator Hussaini is a leader with an impressive background in administrative affairs, educational planning and community development service delivery. His expertise spans various domains, including public administrative affairs, policies, strategic matters, human resources development and educational administration. Over the years, he has made significant contributions to the nation’s development through his work with administrative and educational consultants, donor-funded organisations, NGOs/CBOs and international/national bodies.
Often times, our human inhibitions tend to makes us think that real leaders are mortals with messianic mission. That perception or thinking is totally flawed as our daily experience demonstrates that real leaders are just ordinary people with extraordinary determination. However, Senator Hussaini stands on a different pedestal as he added this award within short period of his legislative stride.
In any civilised nation, one of the major innovations to entrenching good governance, socio-political right and accountability to the citizens is the media. It serves as the pivot to uplift true democratic government. In simpler sense, the role the media plays in the building of a society can never be relegated to the background because information is power and information shared is empowerment. It is through the media that we can get comprehensive information about happenings in the world.
As institutions central to the democratic process, media serve several critical functions among which is offering a comprehensive account of the broadest range of events, therefore, serving the society with corpus of information and knowledge to make informed choices. The media also maintain wide range of opinion and analysis of issues unfolding in society.
Described by most people as gentle, generous, humble, and trustworthy and down-to-earth, Senator Hussaini, no doubt, displayed high and esteemed leadership qualities which endeared him, not only to the people of his senatorial district, his state, Jigawa, but also across the country.
Believed widely as a person who matches his words with action, Walin Kazaure is one of the few leaders who has never been involved in any form of scandal, dishonesty or betrayal of public trust, traits reminiscent of most our modern day politicians.
He has made exceptional strides in special intervention in the areas of education, health, agriculture, women/youth empowerment and drug abuse. His legislative priorities are education, health, good roads and water. Also accredited to him are the following; sponsorship of students scholarships, infrastructural development which includes: solar street lights, hand pump and motorized boreholes, lobbying for the construction of roads and renovation of secondary and primary schools. He is an advocate for youth empowerment and poverty alleviation. He has achieved these through: issuing of grants to the youths and providing welfare packages to the less privileged.
He has a big dossier of constituency outreach that reflects his close touch with his constituents. He has utilised the opportunity given to him through projects he attracted to his constituency and his name is registered in the hearts of his people.
Hussaini’s exemplary journey in public service, coupled with his commitment to continuous learning and community development, positions him as a transformative leader contributing to Nigeria’s progress. His diverse experiences, recognitions and qualifications underscore his dedication to making a positive impact on society.
He is truly a representative of the people going by the amount of work he was able to do for the overall benefit of his senatorial district. So far, he has proved to be one of the few federal lawmakers that people are feeling the impact of their representation. No matter what anyone would say, the amount of dividends of democracy that this distinguished senator has delivered to the people is unmatched.
Indeed, the visionary parliamentarian, Senator Babangida Hussaini should be celebrated for bagging the Hotpen@10: Leadership Award for Excellence in Public Administration/Parliament.
