Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba is relishing his team’s 3-1 win over hosts Senegal, and has lauded his wards for a job well done, saying their victory is a first major step in their quest to qualify for the FIFA Under- 20 World Cup.
First-half goals by Taiwo Awoniyi and Ifeanyi Matthew gave Nigeria the full points on the opening day of the 2015 AYC.
“It is our first three points of a very important competition,” said Manu.
“The result of any opening game is very crucial in a tournament like this and we are grateful to God we won.
“We have now taken a foot towards qualifying for the World Cup.
“We did not know a lot about Senegal before the match, but the boys did a good job.
“But we have also put this game behind us and our focus is on our next game on Wednesday (against Congo).”
Disappointed Senegal skipper Roger Gomis promised his team will post an improved outing against Cote d’Ivoire in their next Group A game.
“We will continue to work harder and for the next game we will be better,” he vowed.
