Awka: Again, gunmen invade Anambra capital city, kill UNIZIK lecturer

Unknown gunmen suspected to be car snatchers, Monday night, gunned down a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr Osita Chinedu.

Chinedu, who was his Departmental Sandwich Coordinator, was reportedly shot dead at about 7.45pm while driving along High tension road by Benjamin Hotel, Aroma junction in Awka.

But while sources said the killers made away with late Chinedu’s car, some others alleged that the assassins left it untouched but dragged his corpse down and crushed it as well before escaping with their vehicle.

“The Young man was shot inside his car this night. The killers shot him dead in a cold blood and left without picking anything from his car. As at the time of filling this report, the traders hurriedly closed their shops. The lifeless body of the unidentified victim is still there,” Charles Ife stated.

A source who corroborated the incident said, “Yes someone was shot dead along that high tension this evening. They are saying that he was a lecturer from UNIZIK, from Nteje. Please, Comrades, let’s be safe during this Yuletide. If they come for your car, surrender the car, our lives are important.”

Also speaking, a staff of UNIZIK, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described him as a ‘fellow sports enthusiast,’ insisting that “We and our children are no longer safe in this state. A whole Capital City.”
