Auto crash: 3 dead, 14 injured along Lagos-Ibadan expressway


Three persons on Monday died while 14 others sustained injuries in an accident that occurred at Saapade area along Lagos – Ibadan expressway in Ogun state.
The accident involved a Mazda bus with registration number: AKD 53 XN travelling from Ibadan to Lagos and a Ford bus, marked RGB 490 XA travelling from Lagos to Ikire. 
The Spokesman of the Ogun state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident to Blueprint, attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speed and reckless driving.
Akinbiyi said the accident occurred at diversion area on the expressway, and it was a head on collision between the two vehicles.


According to him, 17 people were involved in the accident, all male adults, adding that 14 people got injured while three persons died. 
Akinbiyi said, “The eyewitness account posited that the driver of the Ford bus coming from Lagos to Ikire was among the three dead victim’s while the other two were among the passengers in the Mazda bus.”


He further said the injured victims were rescued to Victory Hospital, Ogere, state hospital, Isara and Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu while the corpses of the deceased were deposited at FOS Mortuary, Ipara.
Akinbiyi warned motorists to avoid excessive speed and reckless driving at diversion and construction areas because of its attendant consequences, rather they should uphold the 50km/h speed limit.
