All is set for the children’s literary promotion initiative, Aunty Talatu Reads (ATR) to present its latest children book, ‘Th e Torn Petal’ to the public on Th ursday, 8th of July 2017 at Merit House, Abuja. Th e book, which chronicles the ordeals of girl-children in the warravaged North-eastern part of this country, will equally be adopted on stage at about 3pm same day. Speaking to Blueprint, the author of the book, Th eresa Oyibo Ameh who is also the brain behind the ATR initiative, said the book is about Hussaina, a young girl growing up in the North-eastern part of this country, caught up in the ravages of war and is aff ected by same.

“It is a case of a rose fl ower turning into an object of pity because her experiences have taken a toll on her,” she added. On why the book was going to be adopted on stage, the author said that she decide to do a stage adaptation of the story so as to give the tragic story a fl esh and life so that people could see the emotions, and realize how it would aff ect them if they see it happening live. “It is touchy when you see a girl suff ering from a war she never knew how it came about. It is also no longer like ‘this is what I have read’, it is like ‘this is how it aff ects me’.” Th e children writer noted that, “from the opening sentence to the closing sentence is packed with emotions. I was writing the book and visualizing so many horrible things happening in the region – sadness and anger fi lled me, especially when I ponder on why our children have to go through these horrors.” Ameh added: “Aunty Talatu Reads is particular about children, especially the less-privileged ones in the society. So it is a mother’s cry asking the society to please thread softly and be more interested in things happening and how they aff ect every individual.”
