As usual, Heartland sent packing from NPFL

Heartland Football Club of Owerri officially becomes the second club to relegate from the Nigeria Premier Football League this season.

This was confirmed on Wednesday evening after falling to a 4-1 defeat to Remo Stars at Ikenne.

The join Gombe United in the NNL in next season with two more teams expected to join them in dropping to the lower league at the end of the season.

Doma United, Sporting Lagos, Bayelsa United and Akwa United are all in the danger of joining Heartland and Gombe United.

Heartland could not turn around their slow start to the season despite picking up at some point in the season.

Elsewhere, Akwa United boost their survival chances as they hammer Katsina United 3-1 to move 3 points clear off the drop zone with two games left to play.

In the other end, Nasarawa United and El-Kanemi Warriors have secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The two clubs confirmed their promotion to the NPFL at the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super Eight playoff on Wednesday.

Nasarawa United finished the Northern Conference with nine points from three games after beating Sporting Supreme 2-1 in their last group game.

El-Kanemi Warriors also secured their ticket following a comprehensive 4-1 win over Sokoto United.

The Maiduguri club finished second on the log with six points from three games.

They are joined by Beyond Limits and Ikorodu City.

Beyond Limits finished top of the Southern Conference table with seven points.

They defeated Inter Lagos 1-0 in their last group game.

Ikorodu City beat Madiba FC 2-0, to secure a second promotion spot with five points.
