Army, UNIMAID partner on research, development

Nigerian Army and University of Maiduguri are to sign a Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) in areas of social and scientific research and development.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar, as part of his official visit to army formation and units in the North east.
He said he has directed the Theater Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole to discuss with the university authority to factions out areas of collaborations and how the university personnel could work with army engineers to fix some of the equipment use in the theater of operation in the North east.
He thanked the university authority for the award bestowed on him and the Chief of the Air Staff, during its recent convocation ceremony.
“The award is not only for me but for my set of 1990, as well as the commitment and fighting spirit of our officers and soldiers fighting insurgency in the North east,” he said.
In his remark, the Vice Chancellor described the COAS as “active first child” of the university who has done its alma mata proud.
“We are always appreciative that you always identify with the university wherever you are,” he said. “You have done us proud. And we are proud to tell the world that this is what we can produce.”
Prof. Abubakar said the university’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Enterprises Development had intelligent and talented personnel that could work with the Nigeria Army engineers in fixing military equipment, hence reducing cost of engaging foreign engineers.
He said the university was ready to collaborate with the Nigerian Army in other areas, as part of its contributions in eliminating insurgency in the North east and militancy in the country.
