The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters across the 19 northern states, under the umbrella of Arewa PDP Supporters Network, have endorsed Jigawa state Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, for president, come 2015.
The PDP supporters, who felt aggrieved at “President Goodluck Jonathan’s refusal to quit in 2015 to allow a northerner take over based on the ‘Gentleman Agreement’ for power for to rotate between North and South and his promise to only complete Late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s tenure, said they are backing Governor Lamido as Yar’Adua’s successor because of his past experience as a minister and his achievements as governor of Jigawa state.
Speaking at press conference yesterday in Kaduna, the Coordinator of the group, Engr. Sani Danbarno, said “our agreement with Jonathan was for a term after which he would handover to a northerner.”
He said the Arewa PDP supporters Network “is calling on Lamido to immediately declare his intention to contest the 2015 election to rescue the North and the country from Jonathan’s government.”
“We cannot fold our arms and allow a weak and inexperienced leader to continue to govern us.
“Lamido is vanguard of democracy, detribalised Nigerian, pioneer member of PDP and particularly his giant strides in agricultural development as well as physical infrastructure, educational development, youth and women, youth and economic empowerment, construction of new airport, good housing scheme and other infrastructural facilities that he provided in Jigawa state.”
