Area council aspirant pledges Kuje transformation

By Donald Iorchir

A Federal Capital Territory-based politician, Alhaji Alhassan Bako Kuje, has berated area council chairmen for “squandering their monthly allocations with nothing on the ground to show as development projects.”

Kuje, who defected recently from the APC to the PDP, declared interest in running as area council chairman, promised to use only half of the monthly allocations to transform the rural area into an industrial centre.

According to him, he helped Kuje council to win the last area councils elections, but the party dumped him thereafter.

He told Blueprint that hospital services, roads and other necessary infrastructure were lacking in rural communities, which had made it difficult for farmers to evacuate farm produce that would have brought down the high prices of commodities.

He said: “I will surely contest the next election and I am hopeful that we would win so that I can transform Kuje community and bring in real development into the area council.

“The chairmen in the councils receive huge sums of money every month, but what do they do with it? There is nothing to show for the allocations. What do they do with the money? Every politician should work for the people to justify the positions they occupy.

“My administration, if given the mandate, will be different as I will focus on rural transformation by providing good roads, pipe-borne water, schools and ensuring that the health facilities function.”
