All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA) members in Abia yesterday defected in their thousands to the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) citing Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s excellent performance as major reason of dumping their former party.
In a ceremony held at PDP party Secretariat Umuahia, Chief Emmanuel Agu of Ward 9, Ariaria Market, Aba North LGA, said he and over one thousand members of APGA decided to dump APGA for the PDP because the Governor is delivering the dividend of democracy to the good people of the state.
He noted that they were the die-hard supporters that nearly rattled PDP in 2015 general elections and December 2016 local government polls in Abia state and added that with their departure, APGA would pose little problem in the 2019 general elections Abia.
He attributed the decision to decamp to the rehabilitation of the roads to Ariaria market and the promotion of made- in- Aba goods to the global market, training of their members to improve on garment wears, shoes and bags skills programmes.
Another decampee, Deacon Vincent Ogbonna, from Isiala Ngwa, said that the 2019 re-election of Ikpeazu would be made easier with mass exodus of APGA members to the PDP.
He said before now no PDP chieftains could withstand them in Aba North because they hold the winning streak but in 2019 his new party would secure 100 percent votes in all contestable elections in Aba.
The defectors were led to PDP party office by the leader of the LGA, Barrister Chief Uzo Azubuike former Deputy Speaker of Abia state House of Assembly, who poured encomiums on decampees for deeming fit to return to their original party noting that PDP is happy to recover them.
Barrister Azubuike boasted that PDP was the only party in Abia State that is on ground and applauded the decampees for taking a wise decision.
Also, he called on PDP leaders at the state level to accord them regard because of their electoral value noting unity was paramount for them to succeed.
Meanwhile, the State Chairman of the party, Sir Johnson Onuigbo, has lauded Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for ensuring that the PDP-led government delivers its campaign promises.
