The leadership crisis within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has intensified with the party’s Founder, Chief Chekwas Okorie, criticising Anambra state Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for allegedly undermining the party.
Okorie’s statement came amid an ongoing dispute between Chief Edozie Njoku and Chief Victor Oye, exacerbated by Soludo’s alleged interference in APGA’s internal affairs.
Okorie reaffirmed his position on the Supreme Court’s March 23, 2023, judgment, recognising Chief Njoku as the legitimate National Chairman. He noted that INEC also acknowledged Njoku as the rightful chairman, in line with the Supreme Court’s decision.
However, Okorie expressed concerns over Soludo’s actions, particularly the appointment of Sly Ezeonwuka as national chairman despite court nullification.
Okorie highlighted that multiple ruling, including those from the FCT High Court and Court of Appeal, have confirmed Njoku’s leadership.
He urged party members to remain loyal to the legitimate leadership, warning that Soludo’s actions could have long-term repercussions for the party.
Okorie stated, “It’s heartbreaking to see a progressive party reduced to a cash cow by political brigands. APGA became the only party in Nigeria where a Treasurer was imposed as national chairman without a national convention. This is executive rascality by a governor who swore to uphold the constitution and rule of law.”
He added, “The rebellious gang in APGA believes that what money can’t do doesn’t exist, but authentic APGA believes that what God can’t do doesn’t exist. Nigerians who love democracy should join to admonish Governor Soludo to allow APGA to breathe.”
