APC, PDP plan to rig 2019 polls, NGP alleges

New Generation Party of Nigeria (NGP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of setting machinery in place to systematically rig the 2019 elections in their favour.

NGP’s allegation is coming on the heels of the meeting held between President Muhammad Buhari and the leadership of the APC and PDP last week at the Presidential Villa.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja yesterday, National Chairman of NGP, Dr Yakubu Shendam, described the meeting as “a secret and desperate attempt” to derail democracy in the country even as he appealed to Nigerians, political parties and the international community to stand against what he called “the undemocratic move.

” Shendam, the newly elected National Publicity Secretary of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), wondered why the President who was away for 103 days got his healing “through the instrumentality of prayers off ered by all Nigerians and political parties chose to toe the path of dishonesty by convening a selective meeting of that magnitude.

” He said the inability of President Buhari to invite other political parties, which are more than 40, to feature in the secret meeting as a step in the wrong direction.

Shendam also disclosed that his party had instructed its candidate in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election to watch the “antics and reject any concocted results.

” “We are consulting to seek redress in court over the unholy alliance of the APC and PDP to share states ahead of the 2019 elections.

Clearly, the disposition of the Chairmen of the PDP, Ahmed Markafi and John Oyegun at the Presidential villa says it all that the internal fi ghting between Sheriff ’s and Makarfi was a struggle for who to superintend over the sharing formula.

” “We fi nd the decision to call a secret meeting between the APC and the PDP undemocratic, unreasonable and suspicious.

We therefore condemn it in its entirety and stress, never again, shall this take place again,” he said.
