Anambra, Taraba sports writers knock detractors, back Isaiah Benjamin-led SWAN

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra Chapter has described the purported impeachment of the National President of the body, Comrade Isaiah Benjamin, by few members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) as a joke taken too far.

The chapter stated this in a Communique issued at the end of February, 2024 Congress of the chapter in Awka signed by the Chairman, Comrade Chimezie Anaso and Assistant Secretary, Comrade Uche Ndeke.

The sports journalists specifically called on those behind the move to have a rethink and retrace their steps.

They maintained their stand that there was no crisis in the national leadership of the body and that Isaiah Benjamin remained the duly elected and authentic president of the association following his emergence at Omoku, River State in July 2033.

The congress also urged Isaiah Benjamin-led executive to intensify preparation for a full Council as soon as possible as it would address the nagging issues conclusively and sustainably.

“The congress commended the Anambra sports sector for the success of 2024 and charged the Sports Commission to begin to implement his programme for the year,” it said.

Similarly, SWAN in Taraba has reiterated its full support to the present administration at the National level under the leadership of the President, Mr.  Benjamin, and his exco elected by the majority of delegates at Omoku in Rivers state.

The chapter after its Congress at the weekend commended the President for his efforts to ensure that SWAN remains united in spite of unnecessary distractions.

The Congress called on the Taraba state government to revive the State Sports Festival as it has served as an avenue for identifying young talents over the years.
