Anambra: Police arrest 3 ‘soldiers,’ 119 other criminal suspects in 2 months

Anambra State Police Command, Friday, paraded 122 suspected robbers, gun runners, car snatchers, cultists and others including three fake soldiers arrested in the state between February to March this year.

The fake military officers, Misters David Otto and Joseph Donga, who hail from Benue state were arrested on March 9, 2020 in complete Army Camouflage, while Mr Ejike Chigbata was arrested with fake army Identity card which he allegedly attempted to prevent the Police from carrying out their lawful duty.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP John Abang, while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Amawbia, a South LGA, reveled that 25 out of the 122 suspects have been charged to court for prosecution,34 screened out and released unconditionally, while 63 others are undergoing investigations.

Abang, represented by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Haruna Muhammed, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said 15 Fire arms, over 2000 live cartridges and others were also recovered and currently serves as exhibits, while most of the cases were undergoing investigations.

According to the CP, among the suspects was a 21-year-old Miss Oyinye Ugochukwu, a student of a tertiary institution in the state, who allegedly delivered a baby girl in the toilet, threw the baby through the window and left.

“But the baby was rescued and rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention and is presently responding to treatment along with the mother who was equally sick. However, when questioned on why she abandoned her baby, the suspect claimed she doesn’t know the biological father of the child.

“On March 9, 2020 we arrested one Mr Angus Chukwebuka Nwankwo, aged 30 and Mr Chidiebere Omeyi, aged 20 at Nanka. The suspects had on February 27 lured a Facebook user simply identified as Willswags from Owerri in Imo State to Nanka. After robbing the victim of his belongings, they allegedly killed and dumped his body inside the bush at Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State,” he added.

He commended Governor Willie Obiano, sister security agents and the public for their various supports to the command, urging all to be security conscious and never relent in reporting suspicious movement to a nearest police station for urgent action.
