Anambra: NGO unveils plan to increase life expectancy of old, aged people

First Best Domiciliary Home Care World, an international nongovernmental organisation, weekend, unveiled plans to increase the life expectancy of the old and aged people in Anambra state through professional care-giving.

Mike Nwafor, who stated this at the unveiling of the programme in Awka, Anambra state, announced that the project would equally end the rituals of what he described as multiple burials every weekend for happier society.

Nwafor, who was chairman of the occasion, stated that frequent deaths in Africa, especially in Nigeria and Anambra state, were caused by uncaring attitude and assault on mental and physical health of the aged, thereby leading to their death, and abandoning of the children without care.

“The consequence is the unimaginable assault on the mental and physical health of the aged, gross reduction in our life expectancy and young people that will be left without parental care at their young adult age,” he stated.

Also speaking, an international director of the organisation and United States of America-based clinical psychologist, Prof. Kanayo Ofodile,  stated that the programme was designed to take care of the aged people in the state.
