Anambra: NGO fetes 250 PWD farmers affected by flooding

The International Organisation for Migration (IMO), a non-governmental organisation, has provided some credit cards with about N7, 500,000 as support to 250 farmers living with disabilities (PWDs) in flood-affected areas of Anambra state.

The IMO Field Coordinator, Mr. Hezekiah Samuel, who disclosed this while addressing some of the benefitting PWD farmers at the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission in Awka, explained that each of the farmers received N30, 000 from the NGO.

This, according to him, was part of the initiatives geared towards alleviating the hardships being faced due to sudden migration from coastal areas to internally displaced centres.

“We understand that persons with disabilities are particularly vulnerable during natural disasters. This card contains thirty thousand naira, and a special pin has been provided for withdrawal. It’s IOM’s way of lending a helping hand to alleviate the hardship caused by the last flooding,” he stated.

Also speaking, Mr Thomas Mark Onugbolu, who represented Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), urged the farmers to utilise the support effectively.

Earlier, the Chairman of Anambra State Disability Rights Commission, Bar Chuks Ezewuzie, assured that the farmers would utilise the opportunity, even as he commended Mr. Chris Azor, the chairman of Anambra State Network of Civil Societies for notifying IOM about the commission.
