Anambra assembly declares war on protesting staff, as indefinite strike continues

Anambra State House of Assembly, Tuesday, declared war on protesting Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), saying they were disrupting legislative activities for nothing.

Members of staff of the Anambra State House of Assembly have embarked on a protest in addition to an indefinite strike aimed at registering their grievances over non payment of sundry entitlements.

The Deputy National President of PASAN, Comrade Promise Chijioke Onwukwe, had during the protest listed some of their grievances to include, “non payment of enhanced salary called CONYRESS, lack of staff training, non provision of laptops and ICT unit, non staff employment and utility vehicles for the Assembly.”

But the Majority Leader, Anambra state House of Assembly, Hon Ikenna Ofodeme Sylvester, while addressing the media urged them to channel their grievances to the State Head of Service, who according to him, deployed them to the legislative chamber.

“To crown it all, this is Anambra state House of Assembly and most of those staff are strictly under the office of the Head of Service and they are posted to come and work with the state Assembly members.

“They are duty bound to listen to where they are posted and know exactly what they are expected to do. Where by they don’t want to work at the House of Assembly, they are free to go back to the Head of Service and not to come here to disrupt the activities of the House of Assembly ” he said.
