Anambra: 2 ladies, others snatch N400,000 from passenger

Anambra State Police Command have arrested four suspected one chance robbery syndicates for allegedly snatching a bag containing the sum of N400, 000 from an innocent traveler.

The suspects, Mr Collins Okoli, aged 33; Mr Friday Ebie, aged 41 both of whom are from Delta; and their accomplices, Ms Cynthia Agu, aged 20; and Ms Mary Andrew, aged 20.

Both Agu and Andrew hail from Enugu state.

They allegedly perpetrated the act on July 30, 2019.  

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Haruna Muhammed, who confirmed the report, said the police, however, have arrested the suspects as well as recovered N400,000 from them. 

According to Muhammed, “On the 30 July, 2019  at about 2:pm, one Ms Nwanye Philomina, aged 30 from Akwuzu boarded a taxi  at Nteje Boys high school bus stop in Oyi LGA of Anambra State. 

“When the vehicle got to Nkwelle ezunaka, the syndicate, having suspected that the victim had money in her possession suddenly stopped and asked her to come down so that they can adjust the seat.

“Oblivious of their plan, the victim came down from the car and as soon as she stepped down from the vehicle hoodlums sped off with the victim’s bag containing the sum of Four hundred thousand naira.

“The victim immediately raised alarm which attracted the attention of well meaning individuals who pursued the suspects up to Nkwelle community where police patrol team attached to 3-3 Division intercepted them and got them arrested.”

He said the snatched money was recovered and vehicle used in perpetrating the offence impounded and registered as exhibits, just as investigation continuous after which the suspects would be charged to court.
