The Association of Science Laboratory Technologists of Nigeria (ALSTON), Zamfara state branch has expressed their readiness to collaborate with the State Civil Service Commission to identify how best they can assist to boost scientific potentialities in the state.
This was made known by the chairman of the association, Dr. Hussaini Yakubu Anka when the association paid a courtesy call on the state chairman civil service commission in his office Monday.
He said the visit to the commission by executive members of the association was to seek synergy and support on how to work hand- in- hand to improve science laboratory technology in the state.
He said, the association has contributed vigorously towards the development of Zamfara state in the area of Revenue and Economic Generations, All tertiary institution and secondary schools laboratories , mining sector, health and environment, animals and livestock development, water board and fertilizer respectively.
On the challenge of the of the association in Zamfara state, Dr. Yakubu stated that harassment of all registered members and even students who are undergoing studies of SLT by members of medical laboratory science professions, non recognition of the profession in terms of general recruitment as observed in the previous recruitment exercise and lack of independent department of science laboratory services as in other professions in the state respectively.
The association chairman appealed to Zamfara state government to establish science laboratory services department in the civil service, review of entry and exit level of their members in the civil service and inclusion of science laboratory technology cadre on the occasion of employment, to ensure posting of their members from the main department to relevant organisation and also review peculiarities of the professionals.
Responding, the Zamfara state chairman of the civil service commission, Khalifa Attahiru Bello, commended the association for the visit and promised to work together in order to attain the desired objectives.
