Alleged fraud: Maimuna Aliyu’s trial continues today

The trial of Maimuna Aliyu, the rejected nominee to the board of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), over charge of abuse of public funds and criminal breach of trust, slated to begin today.
Maimuna is the mother of Maryam Sanda, currently standing trial for allegedly stabbing her husband, Bilyamin Bello to death in Abuja.
Aliyu’s trial which was earlier scheduled for November 28, was stalled due to judges conference which the trial judge, Justice M.A. Nasir was in attendance.
Consequently, next sitting date was fixed for Tuesday, December 5, for trial.
Aliyu, is being prosecuted by the ICPC on a three-count charge of abuse of public funds and criminal breach of trust.
The defendant was alleged to have pocketed N57 million proceeds of the sale of three plots of land she sold off on behalf of Aso Savings and Loans Ltd.
The offence, according to the agency, is contrary to Sections 19 and 25(1) (a) & (b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000; and Section 311 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 532, Laws of Northern Nigeria 1990.
She was one of 14 persons nominated on August 1st by then Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to the ICPC board.
However, she was dropped after it was reported the ICPC was investigating her for corruption.
