Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state over the weekend launched the state’s Multisectoral Needs Assessment Report (MSNA), a comprehensive analysis of the challenges faced by communities across the state.
The landmark move is aimed at tackling pressing humanitarian needs in critical areas such as food security, healthcare, water and sanitation, education, and protection services.
The report, a collaborative effort between Save the Children, Plan International, and local and international stakeholders, provides a clear roadmap for immediate and long-term humanitarian interventions.
Represented by his deputy, Dr. Barr Sam Ode, the governor emphasised that the MSNA is a strategic framework for building resilience and creating sustainable change.
He said findings from the report revealed that 63% of households face food insecurity and nearly 40% of households experienced displacement due to communal and farmer-herder conflicts, and recurring floods.
He said the MSNA aligns with the upcoming durable solutions strategy, addressing displacement issues and building resilience across the state.
“The Project 10 Million Campaign, introduced alongside the report, offers free blood sugar and blood pressure screenings, highlighting Benue State’s commitment to preventive healthcare,” he said.
The governor called on international partners to leverage on the MSNA’s insights, adapt their interventions, and collaborate towards shared goals.
“Today is a decisive moment. Together, we will create a state where every citizen’s basic needs are met, and opportunities for progress and prosperity abound,” he added.
