Alia swears in 3 new LG caretaker chairmen

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state has sworn in three new local government caretaker committee chairmen.

He warned them against engaging in fraudulent activities and misappropriation of funds.

The governor also charged the new council chairmen to uphold accountability and be transparent while carrying out their responsibilities.

The swearing-in followed the removal of three former caretaker chairmen by the Benue state House of Assembly on grounds of misappropriation and mismanagement of their local government Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The three local government chairmen sacked are that of Gboko, Katsina-Ala and Ukum.

Addressing the appointees during the swearing- in ceremony at Benue Government House, Sunday, the governor said with their appointments, they were to re-inject vibrancy in the administration of their various local government areas.

The governor added that local government being the third tier of government, is critical to the operation of his administration since it plays a major role in the provision of social services to the people at the grassroots.

The governor cautioned the council chairmen against mismanagement of resources and admonished them to provide the needed change in their respective council areas saying that there is no room for financial mismanagement.

The governor re-echoed his administration’s readiness towards ensuring accountability and adherence to due process in governance.

He advised the council chairmen to be guided by the principles of good governance, transparency and accountability at all times and expressed confidence in the ability of the chairman to lead and serve with distinction.
