Alia mourns Lagbaja, says late COAS took special interest in Benue



Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, who died on Tuesday night in Lagos at the age of 56 after a period of illness.

The governor in a condolence message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wednesday, described General Lagbaja as a crucial figure in maintaining internal security in Nigeria.

“Notably, Lagbaja took a special interest in Benue State’s security situation and collaborated with my administration to restore peace in the region.”

Governor Alia praised Lagbaja’s contributions, saying, “He played key roles in ensuring internal security in the country and worked assiduously with my administration to ensure peace returned to Benue State.”

The governor offered his condolences to Lagbaja’s family, the Nigerian Armed Forces and the nation, praying for the strength to bear this loss and for eternal rest for the late Chief of Army Staff.
