Alia kicks off ₦1.6bn water project in BSUTH, post basic nursing admission ongoing

The Chief Medical Director of Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Dr. Stephen Hwande, Thursday, said the Benue state Governor Hycinth Alia, has commenced the construction of a ₦1.6 billion water works project, which will produce 100,000 liters of water per day to address water problem in the hospital.

He said additionally, Governor Alia is constructing a centre for drug-related and consumable center.

Speaking during a press briefing held Thursday in Makurdi, Dr. Heande announced plans to transform the hospital into a medical tourism center in the North Central region of Nigeria.

According to Dr. Hwande, significant improvements have been made to the hospital’s existing structures.

He said to enhance the hospital’s capacity, 30 workers have been sent for training in oncology and other related fields.

He further said the Nursing and Midwifery Council recently approved Post Basic Nursing Programmes which has paved way for the hospital to commence the sale of admission forms for the 2024/2025 academic session.

He named courses to include into the Post Basic Nursing Programmes that the hospital will be offering to include, Mental and Psychiatric Nursing (18 months), Nephrology Nursing (12 months), and Ophthalmic Nursing (12 months).

According to him, to be eligible, applicants must have a Registered Nurse (RN) certificate with a current practicing license, five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry, and at least one year of post-qualification experience.

He said forms can be obtained at the CMD’s Conference Room, BSUTH Campus, Makurdi, upon presentation of a payment receipt of ₦35,000 adding that the deadline for the sale of forms is December 27, 2024.
