Alia condemns ‘killing of 26 persons by herdsmen’

The governor of Benue state, Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, Wednesday condemned the recent attacks on different communities in Gwer-West local government area of Benue state by men suspected to be armed herders.

No fewer than 26 persons were alledged to have been brutally killed and scores of others kidnapped.

Suspected armed herdsmen had Tuesday invaded some communities and killed 26 persons, including six security operatives of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards and Livestock Guards.

The attack took place in three different communities in Gwer West LGA of Benue state.

It was reported that the six personnel were ambushed and killed when they accompanied a bereaved family that wanted to bury their loved one.

Reacting to the killings, Governor Alia wondered why such grossly offensive attacks have continued on Benue communities despite the relentless efforts of government to arrest the ugly situation.

The governor who spoke through his Principal Special Assistant on Media and Content Creation, Isaac Uzaan, called on Benue people, particularly those at the frontline of the attacks to cooperate with government and security agencies to bring perpetrators of the heinous crime to justice.
