Alia commends FG on $1.1bn Green Imperative Project

The Benue state governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iornem Alia, Wednesday commended the federal government for signing the $1.1 billion Green Imperative Project (GIP) aimed at boosting agriculture productivity and enhancing private-sector investment in Nigeria.

A statement by the chief press secretary, Tersoo Kula, said Governor Alia, who attended the signing ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, expressed his administration’s full support for the project, citing Benue’s critical role as the “Food Basket of the Nation.”

The governor noted that the project’s success aligns with his state’s interests, as Benue “does not only hold the basket, but the food and its surpluses for the nation.”

The Green Imperative Project, valued at approximately $8 billion, prioritises sustainable, low-carbon agriculture and aims to develop structural conditions to boost food production in Nigeria efficiently and competitively.
