Albani’s murder: Students reject Boko Haram’s claim

Following Sheikh Abubakar Shekau’s claim that the Boko Haram sect was responsible for the killing of Sheikh Muhammad Awwal Adam Albani, Albani’s students have refuted the claim.

The students in a statement by their leader, Abdulganiyu Abdulrafi’u, argued that killers of their teacher were only using Boko Haram as a cover up to mislead Nigerians.

Abdulrafi’u said: The video is a plot to stop investigation. We have said it, times without number, that we don’t believe in the existence of any terror group known as Boko Haram. Of course, we are aware of a group under the late Muhammad Yusuf, but the name of the Muhammad Yusuf’s led group is just being used to destabilise Muslims and for committing crime under its guise.

“Therefore, nobody can deceive us by saying that it is a ghost group that killed our teacher. Our teacher was not killed by ghosts. Our call remains that the relevant agencies should fish the killers out. It is not our duty to fish out criminals, but that of government and its agencies. We are therefore patiently waiting for them to do their job.

“The reason offered by the person that was portrayed as Shekau for killing Sheikh Albani strengthened the belief of Albani’s students that there was nothing like Boko Haram. If somebody would come out to tell the world that they have killed Malam (Sheikh Albani) because he was supporting democracy, it is clear that somebody somewhere is trying to achieve a hidden agenda, which may not be unconnected with the forthcoming elections in 2015.”
