Al-Makura sets stage for successor

Governor Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa, state has put in place a machinery that will drive the development of the state and well being of its citizens beyond his reign in offi ce thereby making governance easier for his successor. Comrade Usman Danjuma, Vice President – North Central: National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), who stated this in an interview with newsmen in Abuja noted that the governor in his six years’ reign has succeeded in putting the state on the path for economic and structural development despite the fi nancial crunch facing the country.

He explained that the coming of Almakura helped to reposition the state that was generally regarded as a rural state as a result of stunted development since its creation adding that despite his eff orts, some persons were bent on discrediting him for peculiarly reasons.

“How can you discredit a governor who has set the path for development and economic recovery for the state which was orphaned in custody of visionless leadership over time? Governor Almakura inherited the state in a comatose stage and quick fi x measures were required to address infrastructure defi cit. At the initial level, roads were constructed and rehabilitated with sizable bridges and drainages constructed to link up communities costing billions of naira in the thirteen local government areas of the state.

“He also constructed cartage hospitals and equipped them with modern equipment to service the health demands of the citizens in the three senatorial districts of the state namely: Akwanga for Nassarawa-north, Nasarawa-Toto for Nasarawawest and Kwadare for Nasarawasouth respectively. Th is is in a view of having a health and energetic youth grade that can handle and drive the projected productive economy.” On education, Comrade Danjuma said that priorities were given to all the thirteen local government, areas of the state to accommodate the intellectual need of the emerging society. “

In addition to rehabilitation and construction of class room blocks, the governor built modern E-libraries in all the senatorial districts. In Akwanga, Keffi and Lafi a Local Government Areas, teachers were also engaged, promoted and given all the necessary incentives to boost their morale in order to give in their best.
