Al-Makura sets conditions for new cabinet

As intense lobbying by politicians seeking political appointment in Nasarawa state continues, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has set conditions for would be commissioner and political appointees in his new administration after the 29th May swearing ceremony.

A top government official, who pleaded anonymity, said in Lafia that Al-Makura had said that all political appointees most ensure that their children and families attend government school and hospitals.
According to the source, the idea is to give confidence to the public about his government agenda and programmes.
Another condition for the new appointees is that such individual should have been in touch with his or her community in terms of development and other relevant issues bordering on the lives of his people and must have contributed to the success of the government, either directly or indirectly.
He added that all the appointees would be made to sign an undertaking to always visit their constituency and not to remain in Lafia, the state capital, without visiting their people at the grassroots.
The source added that Al-Makura had already set up a secret fact-finding committee that would get information about some individuals “who are presently lobbying to be appointed in the next cabinet.”
Already, the state government on Tuesday set up two committees that would handle the swearing of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura as the newly elected governor in the 2015 general elections and smooth transition into a new era of governance.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Zainab Ahmed, said the committees; namely appraisal and transition committee would take stock of government activities in the last four years and smooth transition into another term of office.
Blueprint gathered that the appraisal committee would also find tune the criteria for the appointment of the incoming aides and political appointees so as to reflect the aspiration of the government.
