Governor Umaru Al-makura of Nasarawa state has released the sum of N60 million for capacity building of teachers in primary and junior secondary schools in the state.
He disclosed this yesterday in Lafia, stressing that arrangements had also been concluded to procure instructional materials for the benefit of pupils in the local government areas across the state.
Al-Makura also revealed that the state had been rated as the best in terms of infrastructure development in both primary and junior secondary schools across the state by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

He pointed out that his action was as a result of the modest contributions of the construction of Ta’al Model Schools and provision of other infrastructure which were equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities to support such efforts.

“Indeed, we have released over N4.3 billion between 2012 and 2016 for the Universal Basic Education commitment.  And today, I am pleased to inform you that Nasarawa state has, once again, been adjudged number one in terms of counterpart funding for Universal Basic Education programmes among all the 36 States of the federation,” he said.
He, therefore, urged UBEC to situate its zonal office in Nasarawa, saying that the state had already donated an office complex for the take-off of UBEC zonal office and a land for its permanent site in Lafia.
