Al-Makura promises non- interference with NASIEC

Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has promised not to interfere with the independence of the state electoral body in the due discharge of its responsibilities.
The governor made the promise yesterday in Lafia while swearing-in the newly appointed chairman of Nasarawa state Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) and its three members that were recently screened by the state Assembly.
Al-Makura also called on all political parties in the state to participate in the electioneering process without any fear of partisanship, nothing that government was providing the necessary enablement to facilitate the smooth preparation and conduct of the local government elections by May 26.
“As we move closer to the May, 2018 local government elections, I urge all and sundry to ensure that we participate fully in this exercise that will usher in elective officers,” he said.
Al-Makura equally charged NASIEC to ensure a level playing field for all the candidates to be fielded by the registered political parties in the state, and organise a free, fair and credible election in line with the law and best practices.
