Nasarawa state government yesterday donated N2 million and two trucks of food items to victims of Wukari local government area communal crisis presently taking refuge at the palace of the Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Isah Mustapha Agwai I.
Donating the items on behalf of the state government, Hajiya Zainab Abdulmumini urged the victims to pray to God to touch the hearts of the perpetrators of the crisis.
Hajiya Zainab said the state government was touched by their plight and decided to assist them to cushion the effect of their sufferings.
She said the state had provided a temporary camp for them in Shabu area of Lafia before the renovation of the permanent camp in Shinge, also in Lafia.
Recieving the items on behalf of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Mohammed Madaki, the Wazirin Wukari, thanked the state government and promised that he would ensure that the items “go round.”
Madaki earlier told newsmen that there were over 2,324 IDPs in the camp and that they had relocated to Lafia permanently.
“We will not go back; we are begging the governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura to assist transfer our voters register back to Nasarawa,” he said.
Amongst the items donated were 100 bags of rice, 22 bags of millet, 22 bags of maize, 22 bags of sugar and 22 bags of beans.
