Akpabio a critical support system to Tinubu administration – RUN

Nigeria’s front line civil society organisation with focus on good governance, anti-corruption and advocacy, the Rising-Up for a United Nigeria (RUN), has described President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio as a critical support system for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The national convener of RUN, Amb. Solomon Adodo, alongside representatives from 27 other CSOs and youth groups, at a press conference in Abuja highlighted key interventions by the Akpabio-led National Assembly, including halting the planned increase in electricity tariff among others, describing them as timely.

“Nigerians are blessed to have a leader like Senator Godswill Akpabio as the Senate President. His progressive and people-oriented ideas have always ensured the speedy passage of bills, motions and resolutions, and these in no small measure have complimented the speed of execution of people-driven policies, programmes and projects by the executive arm of government.

“At a time when the masses of Nigeria require every intervention of government, the Senate under the leadership of Senator Akpabio has swiftly acted and quashed the unpopular and anti-people attempts by unscrupulous capitalists to increase the electricity tariffs knowing what Nigerians are already passing through with the removal of subsidy on petroleum products.

“Indeed Senator Akpabio is a crucial and critical partner in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration and we appreciate his unwavering support and goodwill,” a press statement issued by Amb Adodo stated.

The CSOs and youth groups some of which include the Guardians of Democracy and Development led by Mazi Igwe Ude-Umanta; Empowerment for Unemployed Youth Initiative led by Comr. Danesi Momoh; Independent Public Service Accountability Watch led by Stephen Eriba; Partners for a Legislative Agenda for Nigeria led by Mallam Suleiman Musa, further used the opportunity to call on the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to shelve its proposed protests against the federal government and rather view itself as a partner in attaining rapid economic recovery and national development.

RUN commended the Senate under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio for commencing the highly anticipated probe into the N30 trillion Ways and Means obtained by the Buhari administration, which was a major veneer of corruption responsible for the current economic challenges.
