The first edition of Hon. Tajudeen Ajide U20 football championship kicked off Saturday with four matches played at the Hockey pitch at the National stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The football championship sponsored by Hon. Tajudeen Ajide, who is the Executive Chairman of Surulere local government and organized by the Association of Proprietors of Football Academies of Nigeria ( APFAN), began with what could be described as a goals rush with 13 goals scored in three of the matches played on match day one.
In the first game of the day, Talent Hunt FA lost 1-3 to Super Stars FA. The second match of the day between Banjoh FA and DePros FA was an end to end affair that produced seven goals, with Banjoh FA claiming the three points in a 4-3 win.
The third game ended 2-0 in favour of Ify Babes who defeated Fakrem FA. While Puma FA walked over Team J in the last match of the day.
Speaking during the games, the President of APFAN, Dr. Francis Akinremi said he is excited by the levels of discipline and the standard of play exhibited by the teams.
He said that the championship will live up to the expectations of the sponsor and the organizers, which includes discovering gifted young footballers for the benefits of the country, as well as taking the somewhat restive youths off the streets.
Match day two of the 12-teams competition continues Monday, 24 February, 2020, at the same venue.
