Toward improving power supply to the nation, the 110MW Thermal Power Plant of the Ajaokuta Steel Plant commenced operation after months of rehabilitation by the company’s engineers.
The power plant which was under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Messrs 3D Hitech Systems Ltd. Commenced rehabilitation in July 2014 and it had been hooked to the National Power Grid System.
Speaking to a cross section of staff at the Power Plant on Sunday night when the facility was synchronised , the Sole Administrator, Engr. Isah Joseph Onobere, said the “night is one of the greatest moments of my life,” adding that the efforts of the workers had paid off.
According to him, “I congratulate the entire Workers of this great National Asset for this wonderful effort, the power plant is coming at a time when the country is in dare need of efficient power supply to the people.”
Onobere, who also thanked the Management and leadership of Messrs 3D Hitech Systems for their abiding faith in Nigeria and the Ajaokuta Steel dream, promised better days for the company.
He said: “Let me once again thank the Honourable Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arc. Musa Muhammed Sada, the Minister of Power, Professor Nebo for their dogged efforts in seeing that the efforts of President Goodluck Jonathan whose commitment to seeing Ajaokuta Steel Plant come back to life was unprecedented.”
The sole administrator pointed out that the Power Plant which was synchronised to the National Grid System at exactly 9.43pm on March 15, 2015, “will now commence delivery of electricity to give effect to the Power Purchase Agreement signed in May 2014 with Kano Electricity Distribution Company.”
